Worst-Case Scenario for Grid Outage Due to Cyberattack Is One to Two Weeks: NERC

While there have been dire warnings about cyberattacks causing power outages for months, the North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC) said the worst-case scenario would likely be a week or two of blackouts in certain areas. Instead, physical attacks against transformers and substations are a much bigger concern, according to NERC’s CEO.  The statement was made before a hearing of the House subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management.
